LGBTQIA+ librarians have fostered inclusive and diverse library spaces, yet their efforts remain largely undocumented and underrepresented in traditional LIS histories. In the Philippines, the impact of LGBTQIA+ librarians is often overlooked, and their stories remain largely untold. Speaking Out in the Stacks is an oral history project that specifically highlights the professional journeys, contributions, achievements, and advocacy work of LGBTQIA+ librarians from the University of the Philippines Diliman within the field of Library and Information Science. Through audio recordings, transcriptions, and photographs, this initiative preserves their narratives while promoting awareness, representation, and inclusivity.

Objectives of the Project
The project envisions a sustainable and accessible oral history platform that documents and amplifies the voices of LGBTQIA+ librarians, fostering a more inclusive and representative historical record within the library and information science profession. Its mission is to document and share the experiences, professional journeys, contributions, achievements, and advocacy work of LGBTQIA+ librarians through transcriptions, audio recordings, and photographs. By making these narratives widely accessible, the project promotes visibility, inclusivity, and appreciation for the contributions of LGBTQIA+ professionals in the field. It seeks to collect and document oral histories highlighting their professional experiences, develop an oral history that ensures documentation and accessibility, and contextual information to enhance discoverability. Additionally, the project aims to engage the LIS community and the public in conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion while advocating for greater awareness of LGBTQIA+ representation and challenges within librarianship.
