For me, LGBTQIA+ librarians have really helped shape the LIS profession in many ways. First, we bring fresh perspectives like, we always push for more inclusive and diverse collections, making sure na hindi lang one-sided or traditional narratives yung nasa libraries. Representation matters, and marami sa atin ang nagwo-work to make sure na may access ang lahat to materials that reflect different identities and experiences. Second, we make library spaces more open and welcoming. A lot of LGBTQIA+ librarians are super active in outreach, events, and programs that promote safe spaces, not just for the community, but for everyone. Whether through GAD initiatives, sensitivity trainings, or even just being approachable and supportive sa users and colleagues, we help build environments na hindi intimidating or exclusive. And lastly, we innovate! Marami sa atin ang involved sa research, projects, and even working sa policy-making that challenge outdated systems sa LIS. We’re not just following old practices, we’re questioning, improving, and making sure na ang libraries today are relevant and responsive sa needs ng modern users. So in a way, LGBTQIA+ librarians are not just part of the profession, but are actively shaping its future.
